Cabbage is rich in glutamine, a compound that helps stimulate the production of protective
mucus in your stomach. "Raw cabbage juice is well-documented as having remarkable success
in treating ulcers," says Alan Gaby, M.D. In one study, people with ulcers who drank about 1
quart of cabbage juice a day saw their ulcers heal in an average of 10 days.
Unfortunately, cabbage juice tastes pretty bitter. But you can treat yourself to some cabbage
soup, using this recipe from James A. Duke, Ph.D.
3 cups water
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup diced potatoes
1/2 cup chopped okra
1/2 cup diced onions
1/2 cup chopped green peppers
Other ingredients:
Ground red pepper
Ginger
Black pepper
Cinnamon
Cloves
How To Prepare:
In a soup pot, place the water, cabbage, celery, potatoes, okra, onions, and green peppers.
Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer until the vegetables are
tender. Season to taste with the red pepper, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, cloves.
Take the soup twice daily for 10 days.
